Increasing Time for Orgasm

  • Why do men fail to retain erection after orgasm?

Men fail to retain erection after an orgasm due to the effect of the ‘Refractory period’. This refers to a “break time” that your penis avails itself. Generally, the excitable membrane takes some time to prepare itself for another stimulus. During this refractory period that follows orgasm and ejaculation, men will be unable to re-stimulate to orgasm and ejaculation. But women do not have a refractory period. They may be stimulated to have another orgasm immediately after having had one already.

  • Is it normal?

This is very common in case of men and it is perfectly normal. It is not an indication of Premature Ejaculation or Erectile Dysfunction. The fact that some men do manage to retain the erection even after an orgasm stands to be true. It is mostly the young men who can retain it for longer periods of time and also quickly. But most of the older guys will have problems retaining it. But all men need some time to bounce back. They need a break time to regain their strength and feel the excitement again.

  • What is the average length of the refractory period?

On an average, a man who is in his 20s needs about 5 to 30 minutes after his first orgasm to attain an erection again. But there is no universal time-frame. Men cannot be compared as far as this issue is concerned.  For some men, it is a matter of minutes, for some other it takes hours or even an entire night’s sleep. It depends on their age and the situation. It may also vary from person to person based on the individual’s traits. The refractory period is usually shorter or nil for young men, while older men may take a long time. Also, some men get soft during the refractory period, while others maintain erections.

  • On what does this refractory period depend on?

The refractory period depends on several factors such as,

  • Use of alcohol and/or other drugs.
  • Involvement or interest in having sex at that particular moment.
  • Stress
  • Age of the person
  • The occasion
  • Positioning during the intercourse (for instance, some men might feel they have a lesser refractory period when they opt for certain positions.)
